Dorian Gray!
Yes, Oscar Wilde fans, he is named after that dashing Englishman with the infamous painting stowed away in the attic. I figured if Wilde’s Dorian Gray were an animal, he’d be a cat. Cats are adored for their beauty and grace. Because of this, they often get away with murder. And they never appear to grow old either. Hmm.
I adopted Dorian Gray (Gray Kitty is his nickname) from a local humane society. He has all the characteristics of a Maine Coon and the personality of a puppy — he follows me around and greets me at the door, often materializing from nowhere. He is a soft, sweet, 20-pound baby. When I’m on the computer, he is quite literally on it as well. Sometimes we just sit and stare at each other for hours.
Now you know!
Inspirational Space
Every writer has a process. Some write into the wee hours of the morning. Others start their days at 4:00am. Some need peace and quiet. Others prefer the hubbub of a bustling café. Some like listening to rock ’n roll and others want instrumental bliss.
I fall somewhere in the middle. But one thing is definite: when my soul needs rejuvenating, I turn to “my ocean.”
Nauset Beach in Orleans, Massachusetts is probably my favorite spot in the whole world. A close second is Provincetown. Whether I’m communing with Eugene O’Neill or Tennessee Williams in the Atlantic House (they both wrote some of their best work while in P-Town), eating pizza at Spiritus, or walking along Race Point Beach, something happens to me.
I’m home.
And there’s nothing like being home.
