Why Use Me As Your Freelance Advertising Copywriter?

Let’s face it, the cliché is true: copywriters are a dime a dozen. What makes me a unique freelance advertising copywriter is my background. I have over 10 years of major market radio experience. I’ve worked as a programming assistant, morning show producer, on-air talent, and promotions director for Boston’s WMJX, Magic 106.7. The best part about radio? I did a lot of writing.

I wrote scripts for radio spots and promos. I wrote website content, business letters, press releases, and copy for different marketing materials (which means I can be your marketing writer / consultant too!). The writing always had to reflect the on-air product. In other words, I had to write the way people talked. Come to find out, a “conversational style” was — and still is — the most effective form of copywriting.

I also understand search engine optimization (SEO) copywriting. Boston is a competitive marketplace, as you know. So just think how competitive the global marketplace is. It’s important that your copywriter understands the basic tenets of SEO since most businesses have some sort of web presence. In addition, I teach. I’m an adjunct writing instructor at Massachusetts School of Law in Andover, MA. Because of all this, I bring many different skill sets to the proverbial table. Of course, many qualified writers live and work in Boston. But how many have broadcasting, print, and SEO copywriting experience?

Do You Really Need A Copywriter?

Good question. I mean, if you can save money and do it yourself, why not? Well, think of it this way. Do you fix your own car? Do you prepare your own taxes? Do you do your own investing? The answers are “probably not” even though you probably could if you put your mind to it, did the research, and had an unlimited amount of that valuable resource called “time.” If you’re in business of any kind, you know how to read and write. So technically, sure — you could do your own copywriting. But let me ask you a few more questions:

  • How long should a press release be? Should it be sent via email, snail mail, or fax?
  • How long should copy be on a website? What is search engine optimization, keyword rich copy, meta tags, and why should you care about them?
  • Is “white space” important on a marketing brochure?
  • What’s the most important part of a print ad?
  • What’s the maximum number of words that you should use on a billboard?
  • How many words do you need for a 60-second radio spot?
  • What’s the difference between “features” and “benefits” in advertising copywriting?

You may know the answers to some of these questions. And you could probably find the answers to the rest through research. But good freelance advertising copywriters will already know these answers. They’ll be able to quickly educate you, suggest the best ways to use your marketing budget, and produce quality copy that increases revenues. And making more money is what it’s all about, right?
